The Missing Link
The Missing Link
Despite the outporing of media columnists and editorial writers, all devoted to the Arizona event which killed six innocents, and wounded 18 others, there remains a gap of significant understanding. Almost without exception, each of the well known sources dwelled on the duel topics of Gun Control, and the need to anticipate the potential threats displayed by mentally unsettled individuals. That is not enough.
There is a current fault line running through the ever growing population, worldwide, which reveals mental disorders ranging from varied levels of autism, to twisted analysis of the role an individual may play vis-a-vis relationships with other human beings. Without attempting to seek an in depth explanation, best discussed by competent neurologists, there is reason to believe from actual case studies that within the wide panorama of mental disorders, there are individuals who harbor violent, dangerous intentions - many awaiting the moment of action which can lead to the shocking display of wanton killing and maiming of others who have become targets of opportunity through no fault of their own.
It is within that amorphous, unknown body of people, from all walks of life, in all countries of the world, that the 'infection' lingers, possibly dormant, but given the right stimulis, a ticking time bomb, ready, willing, and able to burst forth spewing death and destruction, seemingly for no reason other than the absolute need to get the 'infection' out of the brain, the body itself.
And, it is one of the most frightening aspects of humanity's inability to secure self preservation under any and all conditions. It is not far removed from the terror-driven use of suicide bombers who are ready to sacrifice their own lives, or have been trained, and brain washed, to accept the command from higher authorities to go forth and do harm for the good of the antagonists and their desire to achieve goals unacceptable to civilized society.
It is here that we find the 'missing link". There is no way to identify and make harmless the poor souls who carry the 'infection'. There is no way to reach these hapless ones who would find relief, perhaps pleasure, in killing and wounding others. No words from well intentioned leaders, no appeals to religious beliefs, no use of every known means of communication in the 21st century can reach these sick humans! It is as though one were to plead with a drunk, one 'infectd' by alcohol, to 'straighten up and fly right' - useless, meaningless - a sheer waste of time and energy. The only difference is that these unfortunate ones are more easily identified, potentialy cured, and far less likely to do or harbor evil acts.
There are hazards to human life on this planet. Not only natural disasters, earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, tornados, typhoons, diseases of every description, and last but not least, death and deadly damage to the body from the progress of invention, discovery and developement - witness motor vehicles and traffic accidents, hand guns and available ammunition, flying and crashing - the list goes on, and on!
There is no moral to this ViewPoint. It is what it is. Life is great. Life is filled with wonders as well as pitfalls. There's only one inescapable problem. Life ends. And so does this ViewPoint!
